  4. Day 4: Mti Mkubwa → Shira 1 (moorland; enter Shira Plateau)
  5. Day 5: Shira 1 → Shira 2 (acclimatization hike in the afternoon)
  6. Day 6: Shira 2 → Lava Tower → Barranco (walk high, sleep low)
  7. Day 7: Barranco Wall → Karanga (valley traverses, big views)
  8. Day 8: Karanga → Barafu (alpine desert; early dinner, summit rest)
  9. Day 9: Barafu → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp (summit day, long descent)
  10. Day 10: Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Moshi/Arusha (certificates and transfer)

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport; private transfer to your hotel in Arusha/Moshi. Rest and recover from travel.

Day 2: Preparation & Orientation
Thorough orientation with your head guide, gear and wellness checks; relaxed afternoon to explore Arusha or rest.

Day 3: Lemosho Gate (2,100m) → Mti Mkubwa / Big Tree Camp (2,785m)

  • Start: Scenic drive to the western Lemosho Gate.
  • Gate Formalities: Registration; meet crew; begin trek.
  • Trek: 3–4 hours through pristine rainforest; occasional muddy sections.
  • Highlights: Colobus monkeys, lush ferns, birdlife.
  • End: Mti Mkubwa for dinner & overnight.

Day 4: Mti Mkubwa → Shira 1 Camp (3,505m)

  • Trek Time: 5–7 hours, steady ascent.
  • Trail: Forest gives way to heather and moorland; enter the Shira Plateau.
  • Highlights: Expansive views back toward the forest; first broad vistas of Kibo on clear days.
  • End: Shira 1 Camp for sunset and overnight.

Day 5: Shira 1 → Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

  • Trek Time: 3–5 hours, gentle profile.
  • Trail: Cross the Shira Plateau; light ups and downs.
  • Acclimatization: Optional afternoon hike to higher points; hydrate and rest.
  • End: Shira 2 Camp for overnight.

Day 6: Shira 2 → Lava Tower (4,630m) → Barranco Camp (3,976m)

  • Trek Time: 6–8 hours total.
  • Trail: Ascend to Lava Tower for acclimatization lunch; descend into the Barranco Valley.
  • Highlights: Striking Lava Tower formation; giant groundsels in Barranco.
  • End: Barranco Camp.

Day 7: Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp (3,995m)

  • Trek Time: 4–5 hours.
  • Trail: Scramble the Barranco Wall (“Breakfast Wall”), then traverse ridges and valleys.
  • Highlights: Panoramic views of Kibo and the Southern Glaciers.
  • End: Karanga Camp for lunch & overnight.

Day 8: Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp (4,673m)

  • Trek Time: 3–4 hours, gradual ascent.
  • Trail: Alpine desert; increasingly rocky underfoot.
  • Highlights: Views across to Mawenzi; summit briefing.
  • End: Barafu Camp — early dinner and rest for the summit push.

Day 9: Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak (5,895m) → Mweka Camp (3,100m)

  • Summit Attempt: Start around midnight–2 am; 6–8 hours ascent via Stella Point.
  • Summit: Sunrise at Uhuru Peak with sweeping glacier and crater views.
  • Descent: 2–3 hours back to Barafu for brunch; continue 3–4 hours to Mweka Camp.
  • Highlights: Summit achievement; long but rewarding day.

Day 10: Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Arusha/Moshi

  • Descent: 3–4 hours through rainforest with final wildlife/bird sightings.
  • End: Certificates at Mweka Gate; private transfer back to town.

Day 11: Departure / Extensions
Airport transfer or begin a tailored safari extension.
